661W Mouse Retinal Photoreceptor Cell Line
Introduction
The mouse retinal photoreceptor cell line (661W) is derived from the mouse retina. It was originally isolated from mouse retinal cone cells and immortalized through the expression of the SV40 large T-antigen. Compared to primary retinal neurons, which are extremely difficult to culture in vitro, 661W cells exhibit rapid growth, easy passaging, and stable phenotypes, making them an ideal model for large-scale experiments.
Due to its cone-like characteristics and the ability to express proteins related to photoreception, the 661W cell line is commonly used to study phototransduction and retinal function. Currently, it is widely applied in research on retinal physiology and pathology, photoreceptor apoptosis mechanisms, mitochondrial function, and molecular signaling pathways. It also serves as a robust tool for drug screening and the development of neuroprotective therapies for retinal degenerative diseases.

General Handling Principles
- Maintain strict aseptic technique. Ensure complete sterility throughout all procedures, particularly within the laminar flow hood and incubator.
- Follow standardized protocols. Adhere strictly to the product manual. Implement rigorous control over experimental variables and include appropriate parallel controls.
- Use high-quality consumables and reagents. This product requires culture vessels suitable for adherent cell growth, and the reuse of these vessels is not recommended. The reagents used must be validated for reliability, cell compatibility, and batch-to-batch consistency.
Warm Notice: The cryopreservation medium of this product contains DMSO, which may pose potential risks. Please handle it with care.
