UMR-106 Rat Osteosarcoma Cell Line
Introduction
The UMR-106 cell line is an epithelioid cell line established by T.J. Martin from the bone tissue of an osteosarcoma-bearing Sprague Dawley (SD) rat. These cells express the parathyroid hormone (PTH) receptor and respond to stimuli such as PTH and prostaglandins.
As an osteosarcoma cell line that stably expresses an osteoblastic phenotype, UMR-106 has the capacity to form mineralized nodules in vitro under induction conditions and can be used as an in vitro model for studying extracellular matrix mineralization and bone-like tissue formation. The UMR-106 cell line is commonly used in osteosarcoma-related research. For instance, it has been employed to establish a method for promoting UMR-106 cell proliferation using bone peptide stock solution. This process involves rigorous methodological validation to define detection limits and acceptance criteria, thereby providing the foundational data required to standardize bioactivity assays for these preparations.
In addition, the UMR-106 cell line plays an important role in the study of bone metabolism and osteogenesis. It is widely applied in areas such as anticancer drug screening, bone regeneration strategy evaluation, and cell biology.

General Handling Principles
- Maintain strict aseptic technique. Ensure complete sterility throughout all procedures, particularly within the laminar flow hood and incubator.
- Follow standardized protocols. Adhere strictly to the product manual. Implement rigorous control over experimental variables and include appropriate parallel controls.
- Use high-quality consumables and reagents. This product requires culture vessels suitable for adherent cell growth, and the reuse of these vessels is not recommended. The reagents used must be validated for reliability, cell compatibility, and batch-to-batch consistency.
Warm Notice: The cryopreservation medium of this product contains DMSO, which may pose potential risks. Please handle it with care.
